Servicios de La Raza

To provide and advocate for culturally responsive, essential human services

Our Purpose

Servicios de La Raza’s mission is to build and cultivate a thriving Colorado Latino community in which all members have the opportunities, and the support systems to achieve equity, self-sufficiency, and self-determination to lead a healthy quality of life.

Founded in 1972 by community activists and activists in the Chicano/Chicana civil rights movement in Colorado to provide mental health services for the Spanish-speaking community, Servicios de La Raza embodies the phrase “for the people, by the people”. Since, our services have significantly expanded to fulfill the varying and evolving needs of Coloradans.

From the moment we opened our doors, every day has been spent in dedicated service of our mission to provide and advocate for culturally responsive, essential human services and opportunities to our community. What initially began in an effort to support the underserved Latinx community, has expanded to ALL communities, irrespective of age, race, gender, sexual-orientation, etc, with respect and dignity.

Testimonials

“I was going into a deep depression after everything that happened with COVID-19. I had to stop working to take care of my kids, my husband lost hours at his job and I just don’t know what to do with myself anymore. The classes were an outlet for me to talk to other moms that were in the same situation as myself and helped me get more ideas on how to talk with my kids”

“My kids are losing interest in school; they do not want to log on or participate. But I see that when it is time to log into Familia Adelante, they are always reminding me that its today and to log on. They like the class, and I am glad they do.”

“When I was diagnosed with HIV I thought my life was over. My self-worth was broken and I lost myself in depression. I thought I was going to surely die and that I would lose my family and friends because they wouldn’t accept or love me anymore.  I was here without family or any support.  It was overwhelming coping with my diagnosis then taking the steps to figure out how to get connected to doctors, medications, and more. The clinic connected me to Servicios where I got that help. I started to learn about HIV and how to protect myself and others. I got the help I needed to remain healthy—to live. The staff showed me love, affection, and support I needed to continue in this fight. I don’t know where I would be today without them. “

My internship experience at Servicios De La Raza was one that I will carry close to my heart for many years. These clients are folks who are often overseen due to the lack of Spanish speaking therapists and Servicios does everything possible to reach these people and provide resources. I felt that it was a mutual appreciation- all of my clients were extremely thankful for having such great services and I was so appreciative for clients to allow me into their world.”
