Are you eligible for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)?
Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), a federal program designed to assist low-income households in the United States with their home energy costs. LIHEAP provides critical support in the form of financial assistance to help individuals and families afford their energy bills, reduce the risk of energy-related crises, and ensure that vulnerable populations, such as the elderly and disabled, can maintain a safe and comfortable living environment.
This program helps recipients pay for:
- heating or cooling expenses
- weatherization services
- other energy-related crisis assistance
- utility disconnection prevention
Families do not have to make difficult choices between paying for essential needs like food, medical care, or heating their homes. You can learn more about the program and see the application checklist here.
Incentives
On top of LIHEAP, the Inflation Reduction Act, passed by Congress and the Biden administration in 2022 (Pub. L. 117–169, 136 Stat. 1818), has made clean energy more accessible and affordable to families in Colorado.
Combining these federal incentives with state and local incentives can make it even cheaper to switch to healthier, more stable energy sources for your home.
