Servicios de La Raza is committed to respecting the privacy of its donors and places the highest priority on protecting donors’ personal information. We maintain donor information in strict confidence and make every effort to protect a one’s privacy while logged onto our sites. Servicios de La Raza does not sell or trade donor personal information.

What Information Is Collected?

  • Basic contact information including name, organization/company, physical address, email address, and phone number(s).
  • Monetary donation information including amounts donated, date of donation, method of payment.
  • Volunteer donation of time including number of volunteers hours provided, and type of volunteer work.
  • Requests for information or Comments provided.
  • Personally-unidentifiable information such as number of website hits, and number of return visits. This requires a “cookie” be sent to a visitor’s web browser. The cookie may be declined by the visitor.

How Do We Use/Not Use Collected Information?

  • Servicios de La Raza uses collected data to maintain records of donations, send acknowledgements, mail year-end tax documents, relay newsletters/notices, and for internal marketing purposes.
  • A donor’s name is added to our mailing list for receipt of newsletters, fund raising notices, or other direct communications. Any donor may request that their name not be added to or removed from Servicios de La Raza mailing lists. See below for more information.
  • Occasionally, we use anonymized comments from donors on our website or other promotional materials.
  • We do NOT list donor names in any of our publications.
  • Names of our corporate and foundation sponsors are listed in our annual reports and event programs.

  • Servicios de La Raza Will NOT sell, rent, trade, or transfer donors’ personal information to outside agencies. Collected donor information is limited to internal purposes and to further the mission of Servicios de La Raza.
    • Despite all rigorous protections of donor-provided information, there remains a risk of successful cyber incursion. Servicios de La Raza is not responsible for damages or liabilities related to unforeseeable security failures.

Servicios de La Raza endorses The Donor Bill of Rights created by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP), the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), and the Giving Institute: Leading Consultants to Non-Profits. It has been endorsed by numerous organizations across the country.

The Donor Bill of Rights
Philanthropy is based on voluntary action for the common good. It is a tradition of giving and sharing that is primary to the quality of life.

To assure that philanthropy merits the respect and trust of the general public, and that donors and prospective donors can have full confidence in the not-for-profit organizations and causes they are asked to support, we declare that all donors have these rights:

  1. To be informed of the organization’s mission, of the way the organization intends to use donated resources, and of its capacity to use donations effectively for their intended purposes.
  2. To be informed of the identity of those serving on the organization’s governing board, and to expect the board to exercise prudent judgment in its stewardship responsibilities.
  3. To have access to the organization’s most recent financial statements.
  4. To be assured their gifts will be used for the purposes for which they were given.
  5. To receive appropriate acknowledgement and recognition.
  6. To be assured that information about their donation is handled with respect and with confidentiality to the extent provided by law.
  7. To expect that all relationships with individuals representing organizations of interest to the donor will be professional in nature.
  8. To be informed whether those seeking donations are volunteers, employees of the organization or hired solicitors.
  9. To have the opportunity for their names to be deleted from mailing lists that an organization may intend to share.
  10. To feel free to ask questions when making a donation and to receive prompt, truthful and forthright answers.
