James Coleman is the second African American to lead the Colorado State Senate and represents Denver’s District 33. A Park Hill native and the youngest legislator elected in 2016, he focuses on education, economic growth, and workforce development. He’s championed initiatives like the Colorado Startup Loan Program and employee ownership legislation, supporting workers, consumers, and minority-owned businesses. President Coleman is also the founder of FaithBridge Colorado, Chance Sports, and the Black Capital Foundation—organizations advancing equity in education, youth sports, and Black entrepreneurship. He chairs the Black Caucus and the Black Coloradans Racial Equity Study Commission. A graduate of Oral Roberts University, he lives in Denver with his wife, Shayna, and their twins, James Jr. and Naomi.
