Essential Services

In Colorado, 566,440 people are facing hunger - and of them 147,120 are children. Disenfranchised communities are in substantial need of nutritious food, baby food, clothing, outerwear, hygiene products, cleaning supplies, school supplies, and pet food.

Servicios’ Essential Services staff assists vulnerable individuals and families out of crisis to achieve self-sufficiency, greater security, and stability in their lives. ES serves diverse client populations including those who are homeless, victims of domestic violence, low & moderate-income families, veterans, people re-entering society post- incarceration, LGBTQ+ community, senior citizens, mixed-status households, and anyone who is having trouble making ends meet.

The ES program is a dynamic program that adjusts to the needs of the community. ES relies on financial donations, volunteers, and support from partnering agencies.

Services

Food Pantry

The Essential Services food pantry is available to anyone that needs food assistance making sure that families and individuals can focus on becoming or remaining stable and thriving. ES staff work to ensure the food pantry provides healthy food options for clients including non-perishables, frozen meats, and fresh vegetables and fruit. Food baskets are made with the client in mind and to fit their needs, such as whether they have access to a kitchen. The food pantry is available to anyone that needs it on Mondays 2:00pm-3:30pm, Tuesdays 10:00am-11:30am, Wednesday 10:00am 1130am, food pick is by appointment and households’ pick-up food once a month, only.

Clothing Bank

Individuals and families are welcome to “shop” for clothing at the ES clothing bank. Clothing is donated by community members, sorted and made available to clients that are in need of clothing for themselves or their family. Clients have accessed the clothing bank when they are in need of work clothes, children’s clothes, and warm clothing and jackets for the cold winter months. ES has partnered with A Precious Child, who helps to keep the clothing bank stocked with clothing for all ages and offers a wide variety of assistance for families that clients can access through ES.

Community Resource Events

ES works to provide extra assistance to individuals and families during financially straining times including Back to School, Thanksgiving, and Christmas/winter holidays. Before the new school year begins, ES provides backpacks filled with age-appropriate school supplies to families. At our holiday events, food baskets that include a full-size turkey or ham, and all of the fixings to cook a full holiday meal are given to individuals and families in November and December. This is made possible by fundraising efforts by ES and Servicios staff to obtain donations from the community and assistance from partners like A Precious Child, We Don’t Waste, etc.

COMIDA: Healthy Food for Denver's Kids

COMIDA is collaborative work with City and County of Denver Government for the distribution of healthy food boxes for families started this month.

Through a 0.08% sales tax increase voted by Denver residents in 2018, us and other organizations are able to provide families with nutritious foods for a healthier life.

Healthy communities starts with healthy individuals, our program currently serves these neighborhoods :Athmar Park, Barnum, Barnum West, Mar Lee, Sun Valley, Valverde, West Colfax and Westwood. Sign up for a food distribution here.
