About the STAR Program

Launched on June 1, 2020, The Support Team Assisted Response (STAR) program provides person-centric mobile crisis response to community members who are experiencing problems related to mental health, depression, poverty, homelessness, and/or substance misuse as an alternative to police. The STAR van responds to low-risk civilian calls where there are no significant safety concerns. To request support from the STAR team in Denver, please call 9-1-1 or 720-913-STAR (7827). An operator will dispatch the most appropriate available response.

STAR operates and is dispatched to calls in the city of Denver. STAR operates seven days a week, 365 days a year between the hours of 6 a.m.- 10 p.m.

Servicios de La Raza oversees the Community Coalition component, providing culturally responsive, linguistically specific, geographically appropriate wraparound services to community members referred through the mobile crisis response alongside our community partners DASHR, GRASP, Face It, Struggle of Love Foundation, and Muslim Family Services. After the initial STAR van encounter, clients are referred to STAR Community Coalition to ensure they receive the culturally responsive care they need to take steps towards stability and better quality of life.
